Cairo, April 4, 2012 - Foreign ministers of Serbia and Egypt Vuk Jeremić and Mohamed Kamel Amr said on April 4, 2012 that the two countries had close views on most international issues, as well as Serbia's bid to preside over the UN General Assembly.
Minister Jeremić stressed that Egypt is one of Serbia's best friends in the world. He added that the meeting with Minister Amr included a discussion on how to improve the two countries' cooperation, especially their economic ties.
Minister Amr stated after the meeting in Cairo that Minister Jeremić had informed him about the development of the situation in terms of Serbia's application for EU membership, adding that it was "going very well". According to Minister Amr, the views of Serbia and Egypt on a series of international issues are similar, and the bilateral cooperation is developing well too.
The two officials also talked about tourism, since Egypt is one of the most sought after destinations by Serbian tourists. The meeting also covered cooperation in education and scholarship exchange.
Egypt has not recognized the Kosovo Albanian unilateral declaration of independence and supports Serbia's territorial integrity and sovereignty in the Arab League, African Union, Organization of Islamic Countries, Non-Aligned Movement, Unite Nations and other international fora.

Serbia's diplomatic presence in Egypt dates back to 1908.
